Our New Facility

The Opportunity

The idea of an indoor equestrian facility started with the formation of our club when it was formed a number of years ago. For some time it remained just a dream. About three years later, in 2006, the idea was presented at a community meeting and there was a strong interest from the local people.

As time went on a number of members of the River Valley Equestrian Club continued to promote the dream, look at potential concepts and designs and continued with the development of a business plan.

Near the end of 2008 the dream started to become a reality. Partnerships were developed with various private and government interests. In sub zero temperatures construction started in 2009. With a huge volunteer commitment and community support the facility came into being.

The Building

The River Valley Equestrian Centre is nestled in the heart of the Margaree Valley. The structure is a Coverall Building 260 ft. in length and 72 ft. wide. Within the building we have a 180 feet long and 70 feet wide riding surface that is able to boast of the Coverall structure allowance for natural light penetration. For night time use, we have a system of natural white (low energy consumption) florescent lighting making night time riding as pleasurable as any day time ride.

In addition to the riding area, the remainder of the structure houses stalls for twenty horses and provides boarders with all the extras. The stalls contain wall to wall rubber matting and Nelson heated water feeders to keep water flowing year round with ease. In the design we paid particular attention to the layout, maximizing the use of space and providing efficiency for the staff and owners providing care to their horses.

What We Offer

Boarding is available at a reasonable cost. A boarding agreement will need to be signed and individuals are required to be a club member in good standing and carry equine insurance on their horse. This can be purchased from a company or be obtained by joining the Nova Scotia Equestrian Federation.

Boarding is based on a co-operative system where owners are required to provide all hay and grain and care of there horse; however the facility provides staff to feed three meals a day, insuring all animals are fed at the same time. In addition, the facility offers reasonable daily, monthly and yearly rates for those wishing to haul in to use the facility on a more casual basis. Just pick the plan that works for you.

Throughout the year the club is host to various events and programs. Competitive events, professionally coached clinics, lessons and other events requiring an indoor arena, such as dog shows, county fairs, etc. can be hosted from this facility.

Boarders are also provided with sawdust for bedding based on availability, an area for hay and grain storage and a locker area large enough to house saddle and tack required for one horse. Washroom facilities are on site and a heated viewing room will be provided for spectators on those cold winter days.

New members are always welcome!

Drop by for a visit, you won’t be disappointed. Please contact one of the club executive for details.
